O God of many names, we seek, and perhaps find, aspects of You in the words that we say here. We seek, and perhaps find, aspects of You in symbol and metaphor.
These devices help us to perceive You as if through a glass darkly. But they are not You. The names, the symbols, the metaphors are but our attempts to comprehend what is beyond our comprehension, to express what cannot be adequately expressed.
Soon, Ineffable One, we will see face to face. Until then, we abide in faith. Sustain us as we abide, Inexhaustible Wellspring. Let Your presence come to us like sunshine in May. And though we who live and move and have our being in You cannot fully know You any more than a fish can fully know the ocean, let us know Your love. And let that be our strength and our sustenance to do Your work in the world, with cheerful and forgiving hearts.
Amen.
