August Worship & Activity Calendar

Summer hours — services begin at 10:30a.m.!

Sunday, August 3
10:30 a.m. worship: “Love is the Relish on the Hot Dog of Life,” a sermon by Rev. Henley. A light-hearted look at how love enriches our lives.

Let us all gather this Sunday at our church and recognize the tragedy at the UU church in Knoxville for the assault on human life, human dignity, and human rights that it is. We can pray together for healing, and, as a beloved community, celebrate the hope of a free religious faith that welcomes all.

We will have a special time of prayer in our worship service for reading, reflections, and music for healing and hope.

Wednesday, August 6
6:00 p.m. “Pray for Peace” Deacon Marti Martinson will hold his monthly prayer service.

Sunday, August 10
9:30 a.m. A Christian Course in Miracles taught by William Spruiell. 2nd floor study.

10:30 a.m. worship: “Sing Your Favorite Hymns” today. Our new music director Darryl Winston will be leading us in some of our ol’ favorites. It will be an opportunity for everyone to get to know Darryl and for Darryl to get to know us. I am not going to suggest that he will be looking for singers for our Chancel Choir!

Saturday, August 16
2:30 p.m. Church kitchen: Leland Place ministry

Sunday, August 17
10:30 a.m. worship: Michael Relland, our new intern minister, wonders, “Is George Carlin in Heaven?”  The comedian’s passing has been popularized through cartoons in the Washington Post and threats of picketing at his funeral by religious zealots.  This is a famous Universalist question for an infamous personality.

Sunday, August 24
10:30 a.m. worship: “Women’s Equality, Is It Real?” Rev. Henley will explore with us a brief look at Jesus’ inclusion of women, as well as how women are included today in our culture. Some of the discoveries may surprise us.

Sunday, August 31
9:30 a.m. The Christian Prayer/Spirituality Covenant Group will meet in the second floor study. The subject will be Journaling as Spiritual Practice.

10:30 a.m. worship: Rev. Henley shares with us her favorite figure from the Transcendentalists: Margaret Fuller, a woman of her time and ahead of her time.
