Sunday, January 3
11:00 a.m. worship: Our fourth annual "Service of Our Living Tradition." We will celebrate the births of our congregation this year, the lives of those in our congregation and families who have died, and new members who have joined. We will also "Affirm Our Deacons" with Congregational Affirmation, and Rev. Henley will award the 2009 UNMC VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD!

Sunday, January 10
11:00 a.m. worship: "Water, Wind, and Fire" Rev. Henley will be preaching on the elements, metaphorical and otherwise, which bring us closer to God.

After hospitality, there will be an “Exploring Our Spirituality” step to membership class, presented by the Welcome and Membership Committee. Newcomers are invited. It is a time for everyone to share their spiritual journeys and make connections with others. We will live out our UU promise: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.

Saturday, January 16
2:00 p.m. church kitchen: Leland Place ministry. Prepare a meal to take to Leland Place

Sunday, January 17
11:00 a.m. worship: "The Utility of Prayer" Deacon Marti Martinson discusses the essay included in the 1839 Universalist Prayer Book and the suggestion in the Timothy epistle to pray for all men and women. Our Universalist heritage acknowledges the hope of future redemption of everyone, and this fact is to be praised.

Sunday, January 24
11:00 a.m. worship: "Chanting a Curse" In the Psalms, sweet scenes of green pastures and running brooks alternate with dreadful images of anger and vengeance. Yet, for Jews and for Christian monastic orders who recite the psalms regularly, all are part of the sacred canon, the curses as well as the praises. In a preview of an upcoming Lenten class series, Deacon Sue Mosher explores the psalms' capacity to stir our deepest fears and longings and become our own songs directed toward God.

12:30 after hospitality: "Delighting in the Feminine Divine", 2nd floor Library. We have been exploring how the Feminine Divine can be found in the Bible and in traditional Christian worship.

Sunday, January 31
11:00 a.m. worship: "The God in Whom We Live and Move and Have Our Being." St. Paul's words reminds us just how close God's presence is to us --- if only we have ears to hear and eyes to see. Deacon Dave Skidmore explores "panentheism" -- or "all in God" as opposed to "pantheism" -- God is all.
