Pearson, on the ethical implications of universal love and the hope of world peace through mutual respect for different peoples and points of view, drawing from his difficult journey from being a highly successful Pentecostal minister to one who now embraces Universalism.

12:45 p.m. outing: UNMC hikers will join the Nature Lovers Meetup at Dupont Circle to carpool to Gambrill State Park for a 3-4 mile hike led by Sankar Siteraman. More details are available on the Meetup site.

7-9 p.m. Meet Your Inner Deacon, a 6-week series exploring spiritual life in community. We're meeting in the parlor to experience a spiritual practice that's energetic or both. Expect to be surprised!
Tuesday, November 16
7:30 p.m. Presentation by Rev. Bruce Marshall on the history of Unitarians and Universalists in the Washington, DC, area at the UU Church of Arlington, drawing from his recent book on the subject. More details.
Friday, November 19
8-11 p.m. "Bring up the Lights," gala fundraiser for Spooky Action Theater -- Help launch Washington's newest theater space, located in UNMC's Perkins Hall, with an evening of food, music, and dancing. UNMC's partnership with Spooky Action Theater helps the church preserve our historic building through service to the community.
Saturday, November 20
9 a.m., Washington Mall: "Help the Homeless" walkathon to benefit community organizations like Martha's Table, which is right around the corner from UNMC and has been benefitted from our "Share the Plate" project. Martha's Table takes care of homeless children after school, often feeding children who have no other place to eat.
2:30 p.m. Leland Place ministry: Gather in the church kitchen to prepare a meal, then carpool to Leland Place, a halfway house on North Capitol Street for men in recovery from homelessness and addiction, and share the meal at about 5 p.m. RSVP to Dave Skidmore.

11 a.m. worship: Marti Martinson will preach on the 1917 Universalist "Declaration of Social Principles" written by Clarence Skinner.
After hospitality, the Unitarian Universalist history video will be shown.

Saturday, November 27
7:30 p.m. Coffee House (the first in a series hosted by the UNMC Social Action ministry): Music, food, poetry, Palestinian crafts plus an "open mic" if anyone wants to perform with the band. Mai Abdul Rahman, president of the Palestinian Women's Association, will speak about the commonalities between the Christian and Muslim faiths.
