"From the Heart"

Would you dedicate Sunday, December 5 to our dearly beloved community?

I’m asking all UNMC members and friends on that day to
Worship with each other;
Share lunch, provided by the Board;
Attend the semi-annual congregational meeting; and afterwards,
Enjoy our dedicated choir’s Christmas Concert.

In-between the semi-annual meeting and our Christmas Concert, there will be praying and singing in the Sanctuary. Yes, you read correctly, praying and singing in the Sanctuary, led by me, unless someone else wants to lead the singing!

All across America, “on any given Sunday,” you’ll find many congregations who celebrate their religious and spiritual life for several hours. I’m asking you to come and stay for several hours. It won’t be that difficult, will it, to dedicate a few hours to being together?

If we don’t have time during the week to socialize and build deeper relationships with each other, then let’s try it one day this holiday season, and see what it feels like to be together for more than an hour and a half. Quite candidly, wouldn’t it be more joyful to spend time together than to
Go shopping, fighting the traffic;
Watch football, and see your team struggle, unless of course you are
a Ravens, Falcons, or Steelers fan (this week);
Watch the Lakers and the Celtics win yet ANOTHER game; or
Stay home on such a gloomy day (that’s the Almanac
prediction, anyway).

Sometimes, I know, it is difficult to have a minister who asks you to do “hard things,” such as shake hands and greet each other after the sermon! This won’t be that difficult; however, it will take some time and a desire to get to know each other better.

I know that many UUs are shy, introverted people, unlike most Universalists, who are outgoing personalities dedicated to public and private social and spiritual ministries. Therefore, I am assured that many of you can comfortably dedicate December 5, and declare it as the day you deepened your connections to your beloved church community.
See you in church, Pastor Lillie
