Spread Some Christmas Cheer at Leland Place on Saturday, December 18

Have you been thinking about volunteering to help prepare and serve dinner to the men of Leland Place--a halfway house on North Capitol Street for men in recovery from addiction? If so, we need your help on Saturday December 18. Providing a hot meal and fellowship to once-homeless men is a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Pastor Lillie led a crew of volunteers serving a pre-Thanksgiving feast on Nov. 20. We prepared "Thanksgiving Casserole"--a recipe supplied by Church Administrator Sunny Simmons-0for an appreciative group of men.
Think of it as an entire Thanksgiving feast combined into a single dish--stuffing topped with chopped turkey and onions and celery and carrots, topped by mushroom soup and gravy, topped by cheddar cheese, topped by whipped potatoes! It was accompanied by green bean casserole and sweet potatoes with bananas and pie a la mode (pumpkin and sweet potato).

A big thanks to volunteers Eric Solomon, Judy Burns, Marsha Silverberg, and Dave Skidmore--and to Marti Martinson for his contribution.

On Dec. 18, we will start cooking in the church kitchen at 2:30 p.m., carpool to Leland and serve the meal at about 5 p.m. and return to the church at 6:30 p.m. Volunteers can contribute their labor plus share the cost of the meal. Contributions of labor only or money only are welcome as well. Please RSVP to Dave Skidmore at dave_skidmore@cox.net or 703-237-2145.
