December Worship & Activity Schedule

Sunday, December 5 - Second Sunday in Advent
11 a.m. worship: "Hope Is Real," an Advent exploration with Rev. Henley

12:30 p.m. semi-annual congregational meeting

2 p.m. Family Holiday Concert: Traditional holiday music and a choral suite from "Ben Hur" and "King of Kings" by Miklos Rozsa.

Monday, December 6
7-9 p.m. Meet Your Inner Deacon, a 6-week series exploring spiritual life in community. Meet in the parlor.

Sunday, December 12 - Third Sunday in Advent
11 a.m. worship: Rev. Henley preaching on "Joy" and what symbolic meaning there is for joy in Baby Jesus.

Noon - Web site team meeting to discuss ideas and changes for the church web site

Noon-3 p.m. Fundraiser for Jambo Africa Child Hope, founded by UNMC member Eliserena Kimolo to raise education money for Tanzanian children: African food, music, and fashion show.

Monday, December 13
7-9 p.m. Final session of Meet Your Inner Deacon, a 6-week series exploring spiritual life in community. Meet in the parlor.

Saturday, December 18
2:30 p.m. Leland Place ministry: Gather in the church kitchen to prepare a meal, then carpool to Leland Place, a halfway house on North Capitol Street for men in recovery from homelessness and addiction, and share the meal at about 5 p.m. RSVP to Dave Skidmore.

7-10 p.m. Coffee house fundraiser for "Love Thy Neighbor," a local group that trains Palestinian youth in non-violence: Food, music, & crafts in Perkins Hall.

Sunday, December 19 - Fourth Sunday in Advent
11 a.m. worship: How can Jesus birth story teach us more about love?

Friday, December 24
8 p.m. Candlelight Christmas Eve service: Fabulous music, Christmas stories, and everyone singing "Silent Night" in the candlelight.

Saturday, December 25
Noon - Traditional Christmas Day communion, with readings and prayer, open to all.

Sunday, December 26
11 a.m. worship: Untraditional service with music, lighting candles of joy and sorrow, and personal witness by those who wish to share.

Rev. Henley will be out of town from Christmas Day afternoon until December 31. She will return for our annual "Service of Our Living Tradition" on January 2.
