Board of Trustees Resolution: TCPC

Whereas: The 8 Points of The Center for Progressive Christianity form a working definition for “Progressive Christianity” as a specific way of welcoming people into a religious community that is generally in accord with the mission statement adopted by UNMC in May 2002.
Whereas: Congregations may affiliate with TCPC by agreeing to extend such a welcome to those who seek to be a part of the congregation, and TCPC offers recognition to such affiliates through its web site directory.
Whereas: Several members of the congregation held a study group on the TCPC 8 Points on Dec. 9, 2003, and found much in them that was worthy of consideration and support and little that was objectionable.
Whereas: At least two members of the congregation have expressed a willingness to pay the annual affiliation fee of $50 (for under 100 members) until such time as UNMC can include that fee in its annual budget.
Therefore, be it resolved, that the UNMC Board of Trustees takes the following actions:
• Chooses to affiliate UNMC with the Center for Progressive Christianity.
• Directs the Moderator and Secretary to take whatever action(s) might be necessary to bring about such an affiliation.
• Directs the Moderator, Secretary, church administrator, and other church officers and members involved in developing materials about UNMC to note that the church is a TCPC affiliate in such materials.
