On Monday, Sept. 8th at 5:30-6:30pm, UNMC will join multiple churches along 16th Street in a non-partisan “Vigil for Community and Democracy.” We will all congregate along 16th Street in front of our churches to show our support.
** In the face of fear, we choose community. We choose to love and support our neighbors.
** In the face of tyranny, we call for democracy. We call on the federal government to respect DC home rule, and to stop using military personnel for local law enforcement.
Shine a light for community, democracy and hope as we bear witness to the shared values we refuse to surrender. Join wherever you are—near a faith home, your actual home, or any place that calls to you. Your presence matters.
Everyone is encouraged to bring homemade signs with aligned messages, namely in favor of care, love, community, and democracy, and/or opposition to fear, oppression, tyranny, etc. We intend this to be a respectful, non-partisan vigil so please focus your messages on issues and values rather than individuals or political parties. Most importantly lend your voice to participate in this important public statement.
